The idea for this interdisciplinary project was conceived during the international Symposium on “The Birth of Archaeological Computing” held in Rome at the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in 2008 and was developed and finalised by Paola Moscati with the advice of an international Scientific Committee composed of: Giovanni Azzena, Juan A. Barceló, Alessandra Caravale, Costis Dallas, Francesco D’Andria, François Djindjian, James E. Doran, Antonio Gottarelli, Maria Pia Guermandi, Anne-Marie Guimier-Sorbets, Donna C. Kurtz, F. Roy Hodson, Gary Lock, Silvio Panciera, Paolo Paolini, Julian Richards, Pierluigi Ridolfi, Seamus Ross, Grazia Semeraro, Oreste Signore, Albertus Voorrips
The project is carried under the auspices of the Italian Ministero dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali e del Turismo (MiBACT) and was supported by the OTEBAC (Osservatorio Tecnologico per i Beni Culturali). Since 2007, the Italian Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca (MIUR) has co-funded the project among the initiatives for the dissemination of scientific culture (L. 10 gennaio 2000, n.6). In 2015, the Istituto per il Lessico Intellettuale Europeo e Storia delle Idee (ILIESI) and the Istituto per le Tecnologie Applicate ai Beni Culturali (ITABC) of the Italian CNR participated in the project, investigating specific technological and terminological issues.
