PROTAGONISTS

This section illustrates the research paths of the main scholars responsible of the birth and development of archaeological computing from a chronological, methodological and technological point of view.

Protagonists are subdivided into ForerunnersPioneers, and Promoters. This partition of the matter recognises three different periods: the period of precursors (until 1960), the period of the pioneering applications (1960-1970) and the period of experiments and research (1970-1990). From 1990 until today, there is a fourth period, that of the triumph of technology, enthusiastically received by archaeology, which among the Humanities is by nature one of the most acclaimed technological discipline.

Biographies, bibliographies and interviews will help visitors to better understand the way theoretical and methodological choices have been affected by technology, highlighting the coherence of intents which characterised the research activity of these pioneers. Each scholar is recorded into a decade of reference, selected on the basis of his first research work on the subject of the Virtual Museum. Each bibliography presents a selection of the author's publications concerning archaeological computing.
