Established in 1985 and published by the Institute of Archaeology, Oxford University. From 2004, given its success in its first twenty years of life as a valuable reference source, the Newsletter resumed regular publication as a six-monthly Supplement to the journal «Archeologia e Calcolatori». With the creation of a new series of Supplements, the publication of Archaeological Computing Newsletter was interrupted in 2007.

The Newsletter contains short articles and reviews of conferences, books, hardware and software, notices of forthcoming events, in fact anything of interest to computer-using archaeologists. Printed in a user-friendly paper format, the Newsletter was complemented with a dedicated website where the tables of content could be found. The latest issues can be downloaded online (61-69).

J. Huggett, G. Lock, P. Reilly and D. Spicer were the editors of the early issues. G. Lock, J. Huggett and P. Moscati have been responsible for editing the latest six-monthly Supplements.
